Basi Pilates: Dance Specialization – Graduate Long Beach, CA
August 6 - August 17
The Dance Specialization Program is a specialized program for dancers and dance students using kinesiological principles to enhance technique and reduce injury risk.
The Dance Specialization Graduate Program is 12 days long. It includes lecture, exercise demonstrations, practice, review, testing and a one day break for study. Similar to the Dance Specialization Foundation Program, this program is taught by Karen Clippinger in a summer intensive format held at California State University, Long Beach.
This program covers the six modules developed by Rael Isacowitz that are taught in the Graduate Program at other host locations. These modules include intermediate and advanced Pilates repertoire on the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, F2 Arm Chair, Step Barrel and Ladder Barrel. In addition, these modules provide an overview of the structure and common injuries of the lower limbs and shoulder region, program design principles, and key considerations for working with select populations.
This specialized program also includes dance-specific principles and repertoire (mat and Pilates apparatus) developed by Karen Clippinger to help improve knee hyperextension, ankle-foot strength and proprioception, and upper extremity strength and mechanics. While some of this repertoire is primarily appropriate for dancers and other athletes, many exercises can be used with general populations for fun and variety.
A BASI Certificate with Dance Specialization requires successful completion of both the Dance Specialization Foundation and Graduate Programs.
